Africa’s dramatic and varying habitats and ecosystems mean that animal species have evolved over millennia to be some of the most diverse in the world. This incredible diversity and the fact that most countries in Africa have a number of different climatic zones means that hunters are faced with a tremendous number of target species to choose from when planning an African hunting safari.
As a result, there are plenty of opportunities to take a wide variety of African hunting species that will keep even the most experienced hunter busy for years. In terms of plains game, Namibia is one of the best places in the world to take some exceptional trophy antelope species such as the eland (also known as Livingston’s eland), kudu and bushbuck. These four spiral horned antelope species are often lumped together in colloquial classifications such as the Spiral Slam or Big 10.
Another great destination for plains game hunting is South Africa. The country is home to some of the most prolific plains game in the world and offers an abundance of opportunity for all manner of trophies including; zebra, wildebeest, springbok and impala. In addition to these well-known species, there are numerous endemic antelope and predator species to be found in South Africa.
