Electric land rover defender is well-known for its off-road vehicles and it has a long and loyal fan base that includes farmers, hunters, ranchers, and off-road enthusiasts. Now, the company is looking to expand its lineup with six battery-powered models and even a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle in the future.
The electric land rover defender is another step in that direction, and one that should help attract an increasing number of off-roaders and families who don’t need the space and luxury of a full-size SUV. This EV is powered by a 100kWh battery pack and a 450hp Tesla motor.
It also features air-ride suspension with BF Goodrich all-terrain tires, and a new button on the center console that toggles between SAVE or EV power modes. The EV mode gets you up and running in about five seconds, but the SAVE mode is gentler on the engine, allowing a claimed range of 220 miles.
Revving Up: Exploring the Features and Performance of the Electric Land Rover Defender
The twist of the story is that this Defender was built by Twisted, a specialized automotive company that has made a name for itself as an expert in electric driving systems and converting traditional gas-powered cars into all-electric ones. It has a proven track record in creating clean and robust EV drivetrains and is the only UK-based company that uses air cooling to keep its electric motor cool and quiet.
The company’s Kissimmee, Florida, workshop is filled with a motley collection of Defenders and Range Rover Classics in various stages of restoration, as well as a few crate engines for hobbyists and restorers. Two scabrous Defender pickups lie in wait at one end of the courtyard, soon to be re-wired and rebodied into something entirely different.
